Parents are invited to actively participate in the many school volunteer opportunities at Hiram Johnson and there are many possible ways to become involved.

Parents may serve on school governance entities such as the School Site Council, provide support to a sports team, or chaperone a field trip.

English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)


This parent committee provides input on a variety of subjects including advising the School Site Council and administration on better ways to serve the student community of English Learners.

Site Council


This elected body oversees the school’s categorical monies—bilingual and Title I funds. Responsible for Hiram Johnson’s School Development Improvement Plan (SDIP), and the School Safety Plan (SSP), the council meets on the first Thursday of each month, September through May. 3:45-4:45 in D-5.

The Warrior Café


The Warrior Café was established to create a forum for parents to become involved with their son or daughter’s education. Open to parents of students who attend Hiram Johnson, as well as community partners and parents of alumni, the group meets on the first Friday of each month at 8:30 a.m. in the Little Theater for coffee, light breakfast snacks, and mutual support.
